Why do we taste?

You must thought that because of the taste buds we are able to taste but that's not the case, then how you are able to taste? How our tongue helps us to taste?

Let's know,

Ever seen your tongue in mirror, you can see it's covered with many of the little buds. These little buds are known as Taste buds. When you eat something or put something in your mouth than the taste buds send a message to the brain to give you information about the taste of the food such as saltly, sweet, bitter, sour and umami ( a meaty, savoury taste).

Your nose also plays an important role in this process. Your sense of smell also helps you to taste the flavour of food. While you are chewing food, the chemicals are released that travel up to your nose. Then your nose tells your brain how food tastes and how it smells.

That's why, when you have a cold, you can't taste the food as much.
