Why is yawning contagious?

You will expect that, this happens because everyone wants to sleep. But that's not the case, so why the yawning is contagious? Is it anything magical?

All couple of theories that explains why yawning is contagious, one of them suggests that it is sign of empathy. Empathy is the ability to understand and share others feelings. Like, when the people around us are happy and cheerful, it also makes a positive impact on us. Thus, we feel good and happy.

Moreover, the closer we are to someone such as our parents, friends or loved ones. We are are more likely to catch there yawn.

Another theory suggests that mirror neurons are present in brain make us copy or mimic someone's actions. Hence, when we see people around us yawn, our mirror neurons get activated and making us mimic the yawn.

We may have involved such feature to promote social bonding.
