Seen in movies or in some TV shows that, in the desert people assume that there is water but thatvos nothing more but illusion. This is a mirage, but why do a mirage occurs? Does there anything mysterious in the desert?

Let's know,

Mirage is an illusion in which it appears as if water is present on the ground.

On a hot day, the land heats up and the layers of air get closer to it. However, as we move higher the layers of air become relatively cooler. Thus, the hot lower layers of the air form rarer media and the cold upper layers of air form denser media.

When the light travels from the denser to rarer media, it bends more and more until it exceeds the angle at which light gets reflected. This phenomenon is known as total internal reflection.

When this reflected light gets into our eyes, it is traced backward as a straight line by our eyes. As a result, the reflection of blue sky appears on the ground and the brain assumes the reflection as water, causing a mirage.
