An adult person blinks his eyes on an average of 14-17 times per minute while a baby do it's only 2 times per minute, but why do we blink the eyes automatically? What is the reason behind blinking the eyes?
Let's know,
Blinking is a reflex action, which means your body does it automatically. Your blink of an eye lasts only a tenth of a second, but that's all the time needed to clear out the dust particles and spreading lubricating fluids across the eyeball.
Blinking lubricates and cleans your eye by spreading your tears over it's outer surface. Is also protects your eye by closing it to keep out dust, other irritants, foreign objects and very bright light.
You blink more when you are talking, nervous or in pain. You blink less when reading or when you sense possible danger.
Now, you may a question that why don't we notice the world tumbling into darkness every two to ten seconds? Scientists have found that human brains have a talent for ignoring this momentary blackout. The very act of blinking suppresses activity in several areas of the brain responsible for detecting the environmental changes, so that you would experience the world as continuous.
